The Elephant's Child

(or how the Elephant got its trunk)

a cantata by
Rachel & Paul Branston
from the story by Rudyard Kipling.

Saturday 17th February, 7.30pm
Compton Martin Village Hall

We are putting together a choir to sing this 30 minute cantata (eight songs linked by narration). It will be a lot of fun and anyone who would like to put in rehearsal time with us will be welcome and will be able to cope - we promise.
Questions and Answers . . . .
What is "The Elephant's Child"?

This is our 30 minute cantata (story set to music) from Rudyard Kipling's famous "Just So" story. It consists of eight songs linked by a narrator and lasts for approximately 30 minutes.

We will perform this in the second half of the concert. The first half will feature other local performers to be arranged.

How difficult will it be to perform?

Quite easy, just so long as you are prepared to come to all rehearsals and do a little practice at home.

We will provide written music for all the songs and also recorded "Teach Tracks" that let you hear every note of your part so you can practice along with it. See below for detail how to download your music and Teach Tracks so you can get practicing right away.

The music is written mostly in two parts (upper and lower voices) and we'll divide the choir roughly equally, according to preference.

I can't read music. Can I still do this?

Yes, don't worry. We will supply you with recordings of all the individual voice parts so you will be able to learn them note for note without having to read music. If you can read music, that's great. We will also send you the printed stuff too.

Will it be suitable for children as well as adults?

Yes, absolutely. We welcome all ages.

When will rehearsals be?

Each Thursday evening 7.00 - 8.00pm
Starting January 4th
in Compton Martin, venue to be confirmed.

Click send and you'll receive an Email back with information on how to download a full recording of the work, your music parts and the teach tracks. Put in a little practice over Christmas and you'll be ready to join us for the first rehearsal on January 4th.

This doesn't commit you to anything - just check out the music parts and see what you think . . .
